What happens in our whisky tour vouchers experience?
As you step inside the distillery, a warm welcome awaits from our founder Greg or one of his team. They will escort you to your designated table where an impressive flight of our whisky expressions will be presented. However, kindly refrain from indulging just yet as we have a guided tasting session planned for later.
To begin the session, we invite you to sit back and enjoy our latest educational film which tells the captivating story of the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery. This 30-minute video will take you on a journey from the initial idea to where we stand today. You’ll get an inside look into the process of creating our signature whisky, from the development of our still to the renovation of our building. Witness the various stages of our whisky-making process come to life through this informative and engaging film.
Following the video, you will embark on a guided whisky-tasting journey featuring our latest expressions. Alongside other participants, you will have the opportunity to discuss and engage with members of our team, including the chance to ask any burning questions you may have. The tasting will consist of our three single malt expressions, each aged in its unique cask of Ex-Bourbon, Bordeaux Red Wine, and Oloroso Sherry. Through this experience, you will witness and taste the distinct colour and flavour profiles that each cask has infused into our whiskies, which will be elaborated on in further detail during the tasting.
After the sampling session, you’ll receive a £5 discount on any bottle that you purchase on the premises, which you can bring home as a memento of your trip to offer to your loved ones (or keep yourself!). If you’re not interested in trying our whisky or are in charge of driving, the admission fee features a complimentary soft drink. Please inform our staff when you arrive.

The finest single malt whisky, handcrafted on the edge of Dartmoor
Our Devon’s whisky is a truly authentic and locally sourced product. The single-cask, single-malt whisky is carefully crafted using only the finest ingredients, including barley grown in the rugged and fertile lands of Dartmoor. Cut with pure spring water from the same area, and distilled in the historic Bovey Tracey Town Hall, this whisky is a true product of Devon’s rich heritage. The barley is cultivated by local farmer Tim Cox, whose expertise and knowledge of the land ensures that only the highest quality grains are used.
Once harvested, the barley is malted using traditional techniques at Warminster Maltings, the oldest working malting house in Britain. The result is a whisky that embodies the unique character and spirit of Devon and is truly a testament to the region’s rich history and culture.
At our distillery, we take great pride in creating our signature spirit. We start by using a special beer wash that’s brewed by expert local cask ale producers, according to our unique recipe that was created by our Master Distiller, Frank McHardy. Our beautiful copper still, which was sourced from the renowned Cognac region of France, is the heart of our distillation process.
The result is a high-quality spirit that’s then aged to perfection in carefully selected barrels that we source from all corners of the globe. Every batch of our spirit has a distinct and unforgettable flavour that sets it apart from the rest.
The Story of your local Devon Whisky Distillery: Dartmoor Whisky Distillery
Several years ago, a group of whisky enthusiasts embarked on a journey to the remote Hebrides island of Islay to create their own unique blend of whisky. After their successful venture, they were left puzzled as to why Devon, with its prime barley-growing conditions, natural spring water filtered through granite, and pure air quality, had yet to establish a whisky distillery.
Devon boasts of exceptional local producers, such as the traditional barley malting house Warminster Maltings, and a diverse array of cask beer brewers. All the necessary components for crafting a top-quality single malt whisky can be found in Devon.
Inspired by his previous experience at Bruichladdich Distillery in 2009, founder Greg Millar was driven to bring his vision of Dartmoor Whisky to life. With the help of Simon Crow, the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery was established and has since flourished.
The Landscape of Dartmoor
Devon is home to some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes. Its rolling hills, dramatic coastline, and picturesque villages make it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. One of the most iconic features of Devon’s landscape is Dartmoor National Park.
Dartmoor is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with its extensive network of over 450 miles of footpaths. The park offers a range of walks to suit all abilities, from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes. The landscape is dotted with prehistoric remains, including stone circles and burial mounds, which add to the park’s unique character.
The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including wild ponies, birds of prey, and rare species of butterflies. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a peaceful escape from the city, Dartmoor is a must-visit destination for nature lovers.
Every year, as the end of summer draws near, we make our way to Preston farm in Dartmoor to collect the year’s harvest of barley. The area’s weather patterns and soil characteristics provide a perfect setting for cultivating the finest quality barley that we incorporate into our merchandise. The natural abundance of Dartmoor is truly remarkable, and we consider ourselves fortunate to have access to such a splendid source of inspiration for our trade.
